Alice Bowman works for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, where she is the Mission Operations Manager – or “MOM” – for NASA’s New Horizons mission, which last summer made the first visit to Pluto. She leads the team that controls the New Horizons spacecraft, now about 3.3 billion miles from Earth.
