Legislative Leaders Strike Deal with Governor


Governor Jim Doyle and legislative leaders have reached a deal on a new state budget.If approved by the full legislature, it would end a nearly four-month budget standoff.
The agreement would raise the cigarette tax by a dollar per pack, but it would drop proposed taxes on oil and hospitals.The extra money would expand health-care coverage for low income residents, increase financial aid, and renew the state’s land stewardship program for another decade.Wisconsin Public Radio’s Shawn Johnson reports…
