The U.S. Post office in Kiel is being renamed for a Wisconsin State Trooper who was killed on duty.

President Joe Biden recently signed bipartisan legislation designating the facility the Trooper Trevor J. Casper Post Office Building.

Casper grew up in Kiel. He was shot and killed in 2015 by a suspect in a bank robbery and murder in Fond du Lac. He was just 21, having graduated from the State Patrol Academy just months before his death. Casper is the youngest police officer ever killed in the line of duty in Wisconsin history.

Republican U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman introduced the legislation to rename the post office. The entire Wisconsin Congressional Delegation signed on to the bill.

“Renaming this post office in [Casper’s] honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe,” Grothman said in a statement.

The official renaming ceremony will be held at a later date.
