Several communities in Wisconsin have minimum security jails where inmates are allowed to leave for work. La Crosse County no longer has such a building. Instead it monitors low risk offenders solely by electronic bracelet. It’s something Dane County is exploring as an option — to save money and keep inmates closer to their families.
