Susana Baca – Ambassador for Afro Peruvian Culture

By
Album cover “Espirituvivo”, Luakabop, 2002

My 2009 visit to Peru introduced me to the deeply influential music created by the country’s Afro Peruvian communities especially in El Carmen, Cañete and Chincha that have significant Afro Peruvian residents. With the voice of Afro Peruvian musician Susana Baca, and exponent of the Afro Peruvian musical tradition, you’ll hear the strong influence of African rhythmic underpinning that makes this recording unique, soulful, and captivating.
