WPR's Live Streams
LISTENING FROM OUR WEBSITE
Wisconsin Public Radio has been providing live online streaming for over a decade. We currently offer secure live streams for our three networks in MP3 format. Links to these streams are located in the Listen Live section near the top of the right column on almost every web page. These links call a separate "playback page" which allows us to provide the stream in a more controlled and consistent manner.

DIRECT STREAM LINKS
Some listeners prefer to use their own PC or Mac-based player (WinAmp, Windows Media Player, iTunes, etc.) So we also provide the secure "direct MP3 address" for each live stream. Below are both MP3 and AAC direct links to our three Network Streams as well as our "Special Events" stream (when it's being used). These direct links are also found on the regular player pages where they're labeled "Direct MP3 Stream".
INTERNET RADIOS
"Internet Radios" allow you to play an online audio stream through a radio-like appliance or application. Internet radios usually come with a subscription to a list of popular streaming sites such as "vTuner". If that service does not include WPR's stations or the link doesn't work, contact the provider. Some Internet Radios also allow the user to enter a specific stream address. We've discovered that some internet radios cannot use our "secure stream' addresses (listed above). Try using the addresses below for direct, non-secure connections.
SMART SPEAKERS
"Smart Speakers" are small audio appliances that connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi and are usually controlled by voice commands. They can answer questions, control other devices and play live and archive streams. The most common smart speakers are Amazon's Alexa, Google Home and Apple Homepod. Unfortunately, each device uses different commands to perform the same function. To learn more about these devices, visit our Smart Speaker page.
TuneIn is one of the most widely known "Third Party Stream Aggregators" available. You can visit them directly or use them through some Smart Speakers (Alexa) and even through some Internet Radios (Sonos)
ITUNES STREAMS
iTunes not only manages your online music, but can also connect to online radio stations such as WPR's three online streams. In iTunes, select Library, then Internet Radio.
If "Internet Radio" isn't listed, hover your cursor over the upper-right corner of the library menu and select Edit. A list of Libraries will appear. Check the box next to Internet Radio, then select Done.
You will get a list of hundreds of online radio stations including (under the News/Talk Radio section) Wisconsin Public Radio News & Classical, and WPR's Ideas Network. At this time, in order to successfully listen to WPR's All Classical Network, you'll need to create a direct station link.
- In the iTunes main menu, click File, then Open Stream.
- From the Internet Radio address list above, copy http://wpr-ice.streamguys.net/wpr-hd2-mp3-96 into the Open Stream dialog box and click OK.
- The All Classical Stream should now play. In the future, simply look under the Recently Added selection in your Library. You can also copy the new link (and the other WPR stations) to a new Stations playlist as below. To create a new playlist folder, use File | New | Playlist or Control (or Mac Command)+N.
