An armed suspect has been shot and killed by police following a high-speed chase that started in Antigo and ended in Lincoln County.

The incident began during a traffic stop just after 6 a.m. Tuesday in Antigo. Lincoln County Police said the driver fired shots at the officer and fled the scene, leading to a high speed chase on Highway 64. The suspect’s tires were deflated in the township of Pine River, east of Merrill.

The armed suspect was shot and killed following an hour long standoff with police. No officers were injured.
