A grand jury on Monday chose not to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for shooting unarmed teenager Mike Brown this summer.

St. Louis County Attorney Robert McCulloch announced the decision at around 8:30 p.m. on Monday evening.

Several news outlets, including CNN, reported last week that Wilson may nevertheless resign from the Ferguson Police Department “as a way to help ease pressure and protect his fellow officers.”

Protesters are marching in Chicago, New York City and elsewhere across the country decrying the decision not to indict Wilson. In Ferguson itself, many people have been peacefully protesting outside of the city’s police department and elsewhere in the city.

Reports of violence have also popped up following the announcement. Already, the St. Louis County Police Department has confirmed that shots have been fired outside the city’s police department:
