Watertown police are recommending election fraud charges against a candidate accused of forging signatures to get on the ballot in Wisconsin’s 37th Assembly District.
Police didn’t name the candidate but that the only person who filed nominating papers to challenge the incumbent Republican in the district was Democrat Charisse Daniels. She turned in 201 signatures to state elections officials last month, one more than the 200 needed to get on the ballot.
Watertown Police Chief Timothy Roets said in a statement Monday that his department is recommending charges of election fraud and forgery. He said he won’t name the candidate because the Jefferson County district attorney is considering whether to file charges.

John Jagler, the Republican in the 37th Assembly District, is now running unopposed.
