Days after UW-Madison reinstituted a mask mandate on campus, Republicans on a state legislative committee voted to require UW-System to get approval for campus COVID-19 restrictions. We talk to WPR's higher education reporter about the story, and hear from a national higher education reporter about how universities in other states are approaching the issue.
Editors Note: During this segment, WPR reporter Rich Kremer incorrectly stated that it's uncommon for the UW System to submit rules approved by the UW Board of Regents to the Wisconsin Legislature's Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules. All UW rules approved by the UW Board of Regents are submitted to the Legislature for approval. Since 2012, seven rules on campus free speech, employee dismissal and allegations of sexual misconduct have been reviewed by the committee. WPR regrets the error.
