A group is suing the state Department of Justice to obtain agency records related to the Affordable Care Act.
The Center for Media and Democracy filed the action in Dane County Court Tuesday. According to the lawsuit, the organization filed an open records request with the DOJ in August seeking all internal communications, including emails, related to the ACA between Jan. 1 and Aug. 3.
The agency denied the center’s request Aug. 20, saying the request was excessively burdensome. DOJ officials said they had located about 1,900 emails that would require review for potential redactions.

The center argues in the lawsuit the request was reasonably limited.
The DOJ joined a multistate lawsuit in April challenging the ACA.
DOJ spokeswoman Rebecca Ballweg didn’t immediately reply to an email.
