Duffy Leads Effort To Save Funding For Small, Rural Hospitals In Next Budget

U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Weston, is leading a bipartisan effort to save funding for Critical Access Hospitals in next year’s budget.

The northern Wisconsin congressman said that funding for Critical Access Hospitals is essential for emergency medical care in sparsely populated northern Wisconsin.

“In northern Wisconsin, we have slippery roads, cold weather — and in rural America if your hospital goes down, you’re going to be travelling much longer distances to receive necessary health care,” Duffy said.

Duffy’s name appears first on a letter signed by a bipartisan group of 45 congressmen addressed to President Barack Obama.

“The president, being a guy from Chicago, from Illinois, may not understand how important this is for rural America,” he said.

The letter was also signed by Wisconsin Reps. Ron Kind, Reid Ribble and Mark Pocan.
