Madison’s first Black Restaurant Week is underway and features a variety of stops across the city.

The Madison Black Chamber of Commerce has organized the week-long promotion that includes 14 black-owned restaurants, food carts and catering companies across the city that are offering specials and discounts through Sunday.

Black-owned businesses in Madison need more support and promotion, said Aaron Perry, Madison Black Chamber of Commerce president.

“A high number of black restaurants end up closing,” Perry said. “And unfortunately, when we reach out to the owners and speak with them about it, it’s often times people are not supporting the businesses.”

The venues include dine-in, take-out and call-in options. For more information and a complete listing of dining opportunities, visit www.facebook.com/blackrestaurants.

Milwaukee held its first Black Restaurant Week earlier this year.
