Old-Fashioned Tour

July 12 @ 1:00 pm3:00 pm
$35

Raise a glass to Wausau’s rich history on the Old-Fashioned Downtown Tour, a two-hour guided walking tour through the heart of downtown. Hosted by the Marathon County Historical Society, this engaging experience blends local lore, historic architecture, and Wisconsin’s favorite cocktail.
You’ll explore iconic buildings and hidden stories from Wausau’s past, including:
The Juliette (Plier Grocery Store) – Learn about Carl Plier and the evolution of this local business hub.
Peking (Hotel Wausau) – Discover the story of Walter Schroeder and the hotel’s architectural transformation.
Malarkey’s (Mayer-Lotz Building) – Uncover tales of Prohibition, the Great Depression, and more.
At each stop, enjoy a sample of a classic Old-Fashioned (or a spirit-free alternative) as you hear about the buildings, the people who shaped them, and how they’ve stood the test of time.
This tour is rain or shine, so dress appropriately and wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour begins and ends at the Marathon County Historical Society, and includes rest stops and guidance throughout.
Tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are available online at https://www.ticketsource.com/mchstickets. Space is limited. Must be 21 or older to participate.
