Begun in 1998, Turner Hall of Monroe’s Christkindlmarkt is one of Wisconsin’s oldest and longest running holiday markets based on the centuries-old tradition of German Christmas markets. Turner Hall, a historic Swiss Emmenthal-style chalet, provides the perfect backdrop for this indoor market featuring the handcrafted work of select artisans and vendors, with unique, affordable and quality gifts, including specifically European arts such as Scherenschnitte (scissor cuttings), Kerbschnitte (chip-carving in wood), Holzschnitte (wood-carvings) and Swiss baked goods. An added treat are periodic visits from Swiss Samichlaus and his bad behavior consultant, Schmutzli, plus traditional Glüwein (hot spiced wine) and a special menu in Turner Hall’s lower level Ratskeller Restaurant. Free admission.
