Brother Sun, Sister Moon
Festival Choir of Madison presents two striking contemporary works for choir and chamber orchestra
MADISON, WI — The Festival Choir of Madison will close its 2024–25 season with Brother Sun, Sister Moon on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 7:30 PM at the
The program features two recent works new to Madison audiences, each exploring themes of nature, reverence, and remembrance:

Missa Sancti Francisci Assisiensis (2016) by Slovenian composer Damijan Močnik, a vibrant, percussion-driven Mass inspired by the writings of St. Francis of Assisi

Requiem (2010) by American composer Daniel Elder, a contemplative setting that weaves together Latin and English texts with atmospheric clarity

The concert features Festival Choir’s 55-voice ensemble alongside the Festival Chamber Players, a chamber orchestra of professional musicians across strings, winds, and percussion.

A pre-concert talk by Artistic Director Sergei Pavlov will be held from 6:45 to 7:15 PM. A post-concert reception with light refreshments will follow the performance — a chance for audience members and performers to connect and celebrate the season’s close together.
