AVB Community Band Concert — Saluting Our Veterans and featuring Music of the World

November 17 @ 7:00 pm8:45 pm
Free

The AVB Community Band will celebrate our veterans and music of the world during an inspiring evening of entertainment titled “Legacy & Tradition” on Monday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Bay Port High School Performing Arts Center, 2710 Lineville Road, Green Bay (Howard). Doors open at 6 p.m.
Admission is at no charge, with donations appreciated during intermission and following the concert.
The November concert is always one of the most popular and moving concerts of the AVB Community Band’s season. AVB stands for “All-Volunteer Band.”
Please note: There is construction on Lineville Road, which is the usual exit travelers take off of Highway 41 to get to Bay Port High School. Please take the VELP AVENUE exit instead and head NORTH to Lineville Road. At the Lineville Road roundabout, go WEST to Bay Port High School.

The Nov. 17 family-friendly evening of music is sponsored, in part, by Hansen Family Funeral and Cremation Services, Green Bay, which has sponsored this concert for years.
Our evening of music is also made possible by our ongoing, sustaining AVB Community Band Donors who are recognized in each concert program, our advertisers and by our audience members who support the band with their donations at each concert.

We thank each and every one of you for your support
to continue our mission of “Music for a Lifetime.”

The theme for the 2025-2026 concert season is “Come Together: Music That Inspires and Unites.”
Members of American Legion Sullivan-Wallen Post 11 in Green Bay will once again be in attendance to help welcome guests and Post the Colors as the concert begins.
Mike Ajango is director of the 75-member AVB Community Band. Paul Oleksy is associate director.
The narrator for the concert is band member Bruce Deadman.
“The Nov. 17 concert ‘Legacy & Tradition’ is inspired by cultural and historical roots from around the world,” Ajango said. “Selections will include folk music, patriotic themes and pieces that honor musical legacies.”
There will also be music that honors the fallen and our Veterans, he said.
“The November concert serves as a big ‘thank you’ to our Veterans,” he said. “It’s always a moving evening. We will honor our Veterans with a musical salute during several pieces, including “Armed Forces – The Pride of America.”
The concert opens with the Posting of the Colors by American Legion Post 11, which has also Posted the Colors for decades before each Green Bay Packers home game.
The music begins with the moving “Summon the Heroes,” written by composer John Williams for the 100th anniversary celebration of the Modern Olympic Games.
The classic “Victory at Sea” by composer Richard Rodgers is a tribute to Americans who served in the Pacific during World War II.
Next up is the “Colonel Bogey March,” the famous British military march featured in the movie “The Bridge on the River Kwai.” That’s followed by composer Leroy Anderson’s tribute to conductor Arthur Fiedler in “The Wearing of the Green” from “The Irish Suite.”
The first half concludes with “Freedom” by Michael W. Smith. Known for his pop work, this memorable piece speaks to the themes of war and loss.
The second half begins with the famous Spanish march “Amparito Roca,” followed by the equally famous Italian “Florentiner March.”
“Russian Sailor’s Dance” is a rousing piece that is excerpted from the famed ballet “The Red Poppy.”
Jeremy Bell’s composition “Forgotten Heroes” is a musical tribute to the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces.
The concert concludes with a musical salute to the branches of the U.S. military in “Armed Forces – The Pride of America.”
