We close our season of rediscovery with a reflection on musical identity as varied, searching and complex as the nation itself. From Quinn Mason’s vibrant overture to the open-hearted lyricism of Copland’s clarinet concerto, we hear voices shaped, like this country, by many histories and traditions. Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 is a work from abroad that continues to echo in the music of America, reminding us that influence, like music and identity, is always evolving. As the CCO enters its next half-century, we will carry these voices into the future we are still discovering.
