Mercer, WI– The Mercer Area Chamber of Commerce has created an Amateur Backyard BBQ event held on July 12, 2025 at the W.S. Carow Park.

The Mercer Backyard BBQ is a fun way to compete in some friendly competition to see who will be this year’s Backyard BBQ Champion. BBQ enthusiasts come from all around to compete to see who has the best Brisket, Pork Butt and Ribs.

Grillers begin the event at 5:00pm the evening before to check in and set up. Next up, grills and smokers get fired up for the fun overnight cooking. The camaraderie of the grilling teams over the years has blossomed into a must-participate town event! Grillers fee: $100 (Meat included) Categories: Pork Butt, Ribs, & Brisket

The Judging begins at Noon, with 3 Judges that have been specially selected by the Mercer Area Chamber of Commerce. Each Judge samples all entries to then determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each category. Immediately following the judging is when the real fun begins – with the Tasting! All those attending get to taste all the entries and judge for yourself who you feel is 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The cost is $10.00 per person. We will also have tasty side dishes to compliment the BBQ. Awards for each place will be presented immediately following the tastings.
