DNR asks hunters to turn over ribs from bears they kill as part of effort to track population

Wisconsin wildlife officials are asking hunters to turn over rib sections from bears they kill this year.The ribs will be used to help determine the Black Bear population in northern Wisconsin.

We were curious about how examining bear ribs could produce an accurate population estimate, so we called Tom Hauge, he’s the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Director of Wildlife Management.
