UW-La Crosse Students Say Campus Minorities Face Discrimination

Multicultural Groups Hold March Inspired By Missouri Students

By

Students at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse marched across campus Monday to call attention to what they see as discrimination on campus.

Student leaders from several multicultural organizations led a group of students and faculty on the march, which was organized to show solidarity with the University of Missouri.

Khia Yang, president of the Hmong Organization Promoting Education, said the group was inspired by Mizzou to point out UW-La Crosse’s alleged problems with discrimination.

“We are a predominantly white school, and so what tends to happens is students of color’s voices tend to be invalidated because we represent such a small minority. But at the same time, it is also significant because it represents the university as a whole,” said Yang.

University administrators were present at the group’s rally and said they hope to work with the student leaders to make campus a more inclusive environment.
