University of Wisconsin Regent Drew Petersen has been elected to serve as president of the board.
Fellow regents voted unanimously Friday to name Petersen as president. He succeeds Regent John Robert Behling, whose term ended in May. Michael Grebe was elected vice president.
Petersen takes over as president of the board at a time when UW is trying to secure more funding from reluctant Republican state lawmakers who control the Legislature. Petersen said in a statement that he will strongly advocate for UW because “an investment in the UW System pays great returns to taxpayers.”

Petersen has served as vice president of the board since 2017. He has been a regent since 2013 and is senior vice president of corporate affairs for TDS Telecom, a telecommunications company based in Madison.
