Listen To Native American Children Learn Oneida, Ojibwe, Menominee Languages [Audio Postcard]

By
Jacob Christjohn, Grade 7 Oneida, Turtle Clan Favorite Subject: Science Learning: Oneida “I like that I get to learn my language, so that when you meet other people who know the language, you can practice it…. You can understand them better and talk with them.”

Milwaukee’s Indian Community School is unique: it brings together students from many indigenous backgrounds, including Menominee, Ho-Chunk, Forest County Potawatomi, Chippewa and Oneida.

Students have a chance to learn Oneida, Ojibwe and Menominee languages in-class. We talked to sixth- and seventh-grade students about what it’s like to learn native languages and go to school with students from other tribes.
