Lesser-known icon of Civil War spreads its wings

The nation is marking the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.As anyone who went to elementary school in Wisconsin, or has taken a tour of the state Capitol knows, the bald eagle “Old Abe” is the most iconic symbol of Wisconsin’s participation in the war between the states.

But there was a *second* eagle mascot from Wisconsin in the Civil War; one that went forgotten, until an historian discovered records of him earlier this year.WPR’s Terry Bell talked about the find with Michael Edmonds of the Wisconsin Historical Society.
