Lawrence University in Appleton has received its largest donation in the school’s long history.
An anonymous donor endowed the liberal arts school and music conservatory’s scholarship fund with $25 million. The school’s president, Mark Burstein would only identify the donor as a member of the Lawrence community.
Scholarships are already being given out, but Burstein says one contingency of the gift is that the school must raise a matching $25 million for the endowment.

“We’re extraordinarily lucky as an institution that we have such generous alumni and friends,” said Burstein.
Interest from the gifts will pay for the scholarships, enough help 45 or more students and their families pay tuition each year. Currently, tuition at Lawrence is $50,000 a year.
The new gift, plus the matching money, will take Lawrence’s endowment to $300 million.
