Superintendent Instead Supports Directing Money To Mental Health Resources

The Green Bay public school board is against a police proposal to place armed guards in the district’s schools.

Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith proposed the idea in February, a week after the Parkland, Florida school shooting that left 17 dead. Smith estimated the cost at $2.5 million a year.

WLUK-TV reports that although Superintendent Michelle Langenfeld joined Smith at a news conference last February announcing the proposal, on Monday she supported directing additional money to mental health resources and other supportive services. School board members sided with citizens who spoke against the armed guards.
