Remaining Golden Guernsey Products Donated To Food Banks

Trucks are traveling across the state to deliver dairy goods from a recently closed dairy plant in Waukesha.

The Golden Guernsey plant abruptly closed earlier this month, leaving over ninety people without jobs, and more than 150,000 gallons of dairy products with nowhere to go. The Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee seized the opportunity to get those products to the tables of the hungry.

Task Force executive director Sherrie Tussler says staffers got the go-ahead to take much of the dairy, and called on local community food banks across the state to see if they wanted in on it, “Many responded they would be happy to take the milk and distribute to their food pantries, kitchens and homeless shelters.”

Tussler says there will be about 50 trucks, in all, that will distribute the milk and other dairy products to such places as Eau Claire, Oshkosh, and Ladysmith. The sell-by dates on the products are January 20 and 21, so the milk, butter, and other items need to be used by the end of the month.
