The state Legislature has passed a tax incentive bill that could speed up development of a new golf resort in an economically depressed part of central Wisconsin.
The package would allow the town of Rome in Adams County to create a special tax increment district for the resort. Republican Rep. Scott Krug introduced the bill in the Assembly.
“It’s really going to help things in Adams County,” Krug said. “This will end up being the new, biggest employer in the county once it’s up and running.”

Krug said the development will mean more than 100 jobs and millions of dollars in new investments, including up to four golf courses and an adjoining natural area.
“Hiking and ATV trails and natural conservancy areas for the Karner Blue Butterfly and some of the indigenous tree species that are out there,” he said.
The proposal was introduced in the state Senate by Democrat Julie Lassa and Republican Roger Roth. It was approved unanimously.
