The National Parks Service (NPS) says the popular ice caves near Cornucopia will close no later than Sunday night.

More than 100,000 people have visited the ice formations since they became accessible in mid-January.

A statement from the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore superintendent says the condition of the lake ice is rapidly changing. Also, ice formations have been melting and could pose a safety hazard. The NPS says access to the caves could be closed before Sunday evening if conditions deteriorate.
