2017 Final Forte Young Performer Competition Airs Live This Week

Four Finalists Will Compete At 7PM Wednesday

Join WPR’s NPR News and Classical Music Network at 7 p.m. Wednesday for a live broadcast of the 2017 Final Forte competition hosted by WPR’s Lori Skelton and Jim Fleming.

Four finalists were selected from a group of young Wisconsin artists who competed in the Bolz Young Artist Competition during the past year.

The Final Forte gives each of artists the opportunity to perform a selection with the Madison Symphony Orchestra. Tune in to enjoy some great music and to see who this year’s winner will be.

The artists include:

  • Yaoyao Chen, a senior at Xavier High School in Appleton who will perform music from the Violin Concerto by Sibelius.
  • Michael Wu, a ninth grader at Cardinal Heights Upper Middle School in Sun Prairie who will perform an excerpt from the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Saint-Saens
  • Naomi Sutherland, a 17-year-old harpist from Viroqua who will play Debussy’s “Danse sacrée et danse profane.”
  • Julian Rhee, a junior at Brookfield East High School who will perform music from Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto.
