Crispy Apple Crumble

  • 2½ Cups Old-fashioned oats
  • 1½ Cups Packed brown sugar, divided
  • 1 Cup Whole wheat flour
  • 1 Stick Unsalted butter, chilled and cut into ½ inch cubes
  • 5 Large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, cut into 8 slices
  • 3 Tbs Fresh lemon juice
  • 1¼ Tbs Ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg
  • ½ tsp Ground cloves
  1. Mix oats, 1 cup of sugar and flour in a bowl.
  2. Add butter cubes and rub into moist clumps.* Cover and chill.
  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  4. Spray a glass baking dish with nonstick spray.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and remaining brown sugar.
  6. Transfer to the baking dish and sprinkle with oat/sugar mix.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes or until the topping is brown and crisp.
  8. Cool briefly and then serve warm in bowls.**
