The Legislature’s budget committee approved the governor’s proposal to increase funding for domestic abuse services by $5 million on Thursday.

The money is a 68 percent increase for domestic abuse services provided across the state. Before the unanimous vote approving the increase, John Nygren, Joint Finance Committee co-chair, described how his mother worked for a shelter in Marinette.

“So this is something that is not only very important to me but to my community. I applaud the governor for his leadership on the domestic abuse issue,” said Nygren.
