‘That’s how they get you’: Damon Young releases unruly anthology of Black American humor

Pittsburgh writer Damon Young joined us a few years back to talk about his debut memoir, “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Blacker: A Memoir in Essays.” It won the Thurber Prize for American Humor.

Young is a founder of the culture blog Very Smart Brothas and creator and host of the Crooked Media podcast “Stuck with Damon Young.” He’s also been a contributing columnist for Washington Post Magazine and an opinion writer for The New York Times.

His most recent book is “That’s How They Get You: An Unruly Anthology of Black American Humor.
