The sturgeon spearing season on Lake Winnebago will end on Saturday afternoon, though the cap for female sturgeon was nearly reached on Friday.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, a total of 2,022 fish have been harvested so far. A total of 74 female sturgeon were registered with the DNR Friday. Had just 20 more been tallied, the season would have ended.
More than 13,000 licenses were sold this season, meaning the vast majority of spearers will go home empty-handed this season.
