Walker Hints At Revised Bucks Arena Plan

Governor's Initial Proposal Faced Pushback From Some GOP Lawmakers

Gov. Scott Walker has signaled that a revised financing plan for a new basketball arena in Milwaukee will be announced soon.

Weeks ago, Walker held a news conference at the Milwaukee Association of Commerce to announce a plan to offer state bonds to help fund the new arena and eventually replenish state coffers with higher taxes on rising NBA player salaries.

Some Republican lawmakers and financial experts, however, aren’t playing along with the governor, so Walker said the Milwaukee Bucks arena needs a plan B.

The new effort, said Walker, “involves not only our legislative leadership, but also representatives of the the city of Milwaukee, and of Milwaukee County.”

Walker said he believes the NBA would allow the Bucks to move if there isn’t a new arena in Milwaukee within two years. The team’s past and current owners are pledging a total of $250 million toward the project.
