Grand Canyon Suite

This orchestrated work by composer Ferde Grofé features five movements with each one summoning a musical scene unique to the canyon. The third movement is called “On The Trail”. Its pastoral imagery offers a musical glimpse into the natural landscape of the Grand Canyon, a steep-sided gorge, complete with deep ravines between its cliffs. Paying tribute to the topographical diversity of America, “On The Trail”, the third movement of the Grand Canyon Suite was used for many years as the “musical signature” for radio programs around the country. The earth offers the oldest expression of world music.
