As protests tied to the death of a black man in Ferguson, Missouri continue throughout Wisconsin, the focus in Milwaukee is on a police shooting of a mentally ill man seven months ago.

About 150 people gathered in Milwaukee to lament a St. Louis County grand jury’s decision not to charge the police officer who killed Michael Brown. Among those gathered was Maria Hamilton, whose son Dontre was shot to death in a downtown Milwaukee park in April. She called on Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm to issue criminal charges against the now-fired police officer who killed Dontre.

“Do your job, or give your seat up to somebody who’s going to work for the community,” Hamilton said.

During a later march, the protesters gathered outside the Bradley Center arena. Milwaukee police say two officers were slightly injured preventing the protesters from unlawfully entering the building.
