Obama Remains Ahead in MU poll

Despite the addition of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan to the Republican presidential ticket, a new poll shows President Obama still ahead of Mitt Romney in the state.

Marquette University conducted the poll late last week, after Romney announced Ryan would be his running mate.Pollster Charles Franklin says the addition of Ryan MAYbe a reason that president Obama’s lead over Romney among likely votersin Wisconsin has shrunk from 5 points early in the month to three points now, or from 49 to 46 percent.

Franklin says Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney still has a big problem in Wisconsin with a favorable rating of just 35 percent and an unfavorable of 45 percent.

Franklin believes the challenge for the Republican ticket is whether next week’s GOP national convention can help more voters like Romney.Franklin says the new poll also is a warning for the Obama campaign that it cannot take Wisconsin for granted.
