Donald Trump Jr. campaigned for his father, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, in Wisconsin Wednesday, with stops in Brookfield and the Wausau area.

At the Wausau-area event he stressed the importance of the Second Amendment to an enthusiastic crowd of about 150 supporters at an indoor shooting range.

He pushed a message that has helped get people elected in northern Wisconsin for decades: gun rights.

“We also defend the Second Amendment, so that everyone in this room, so that my wife, and your wives and your children can take care of themselves when someone much stronger, much meaner and much more vicious than them tries to break into their home,” he said. “We’ve got to protect these issues.”

Trump slammed the media, who he said has not accurately reflected the movement to elect his father.

“We’re never going to get a fair shake in the media,” he said. “We understand that. Don’t let that change your motivation.”

During the stop Trump also praised the performance of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence in last night’s vice presidential debate, and said that his selection for the Republican ticket demonstrated his father’s decision-making ability.

“To come into politics, to be a total newbie, but to come in and choose a guy like Gov. Pence, and we just saw two different people,” he said to an applauding crowd.

Trump was introduced by Wisconsin Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, who predicted a close presidential election in the state. He urged the Wausau-area audience to get Trump supporters to the polls.

The elder Donald Trump is expected to return to Wisconsin on Saturday.
