DNC Chair Calls Ron Johnson ‘Appalling’ Prior To Debate

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz Weighed In On 2016 Senate Race When Speaking To Reporters

The chairperson of the Democratic National Committee attacked Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson while speaking before Thursday night’s debate in Milwaukee.

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz called Johnson “one of the most extreme, right-wing, appalling members of the United States Senate.”

She added: “I think there’s a reason Russ Feingold is polling so far ahead of him, is that Wisconsin voters have buyer’s remorse, and they’re going to turn him out in November,” she said.

The state Republican Party had criticized Democratic candidate Russ Feingold for not attending the Sanders-Clinton event. But Wasserman-Schultz said she wasn’t insulted by Feingold’s absence, arguing each candidate needs to run his or her own race.
