Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College develops strategic plans every three years for its four campuses in northern Wisconsin. Leaders at WITC in Superior held a meeting to collect input on how to move their campus forward.
WITC President John Will said the meeting focused on an ongoing survey about what students, faculty and staff, and the public want to see in the strategic plan for the next three years. Will said the strategic plan may include scheduling changes to accommodate working students, targeting recruitment of people who are underserved or underemployed, and increasing enrollment.
“We know that there are a lot of good jobs out there. Employers tell us they need more skilled workers, and so it serves them by developing the workforce,” he said. “It helps individual students by getting them good jobs, and it helps our institution by making it strong and more stable financially.”

WITC student Lois Theien said she would like to see expansion of online learning options because she commutes more than 30 miles a day to attend classes on campus. She also supports an online database for students to access books.
“For me, the one and biggest thing was the cost of the books. I mean, every semester it was over a thousand dollars (for) books,” she said. “That’s drastic beyond the tuition. If that can come down as they were talking about possibly doing, an umbrella and paying one amount a semester, that would be a big benefit for any student coming.”
WITC officials will use information from the survey and public input to develop a strategic plan for the next three years.
The plan is expected to be finalized by June.
