White House Holds Summit On Opioid Crisis, Signals Support For Litigation Against Pharmaceutical Companies
President Trump declared the opioid crisis a national emergency in October. The Centers for Disease Control estimated the number of opioid overdose deaths at more than 42,000 in 2016. Today, the White House held a summit outlining strategies to combat the issue. The summit comes on the heels of the Department of Justice announcement yesterday supporting local and state lawsuits against opioid manufacturers. We speak with Dr. Chris Eberlein of Gundersen Health-LaCrosse about the summit today and what strategies the federal government could implement to reduce the number of opioid-related deaths.
