Walker, Thompson Tout Wisconsin’s Importance in Election

Governor Walker says Wisconsin stands to play a major role in determining which party controls Washington. He made the comments while on the campaign trail with U.S. Senate hopeful Tommy Thompson.

The current and former Wisconsin governors visited VES Environmental Solutions in Chippewa Falls, which specializes in fans for cooling dairy cows.Walker says western Wisconsin and the state as a whole will be pivotal in who controls the White House and the Senate, “You think about 12 years ago when a handful of votes determined the vote not only in Florida but across the country. That’s how close it could be here and that’s why we’re out asking for votes.”

Walker says he’s done more than his fair share of campaigning this past year but doesn’t mind helping Thompson pick up retiring Sen. Herb Kohl’s seat. He says this is about his sons, and whether they’ll be able to get a job after graduating, “I look at where they’re going to be four years from now and I want them to make sure that there’s an opportunity for them to get a job. I don’t see that happening if we continue down the path, nationally, we’ve been during the last four years.”

Thompson agrees that this election will be close and says voters here may usher in a new republican era in Washington, “Wisconsin is the state that really has the opportunity to determine who the next President is, the next Vice President and also control of the U.S. Senate.”

Walker continued on the Thompson campaign to Mosinee for a stop at G3 Industries. The latest polling from Marquette University Law School shows Democrat Tammy Baldwin with a four point lead over Thompson.
