The Unlikely Event is proud to announce the release of their sophomore EP Dinosaur on August 25th! The release party is Sept 17th 6-7:30 PM right before the Dead Horses show at the Pablo Center in Eau Claire. Founded in 2018 by Chris Andresen (bass), Phil Dedman (drums and vocals), and Eric C. Thompson (guitar, synth and vocals), the group began as a sort of sonic playground for experimentation. Their all-instrumental debut effort, The Unlikely EP, showcased their jazz, funk, and jam band influences while establishing a democratic, anything-goes approach to songwriting. In 2020 they were joined by guitarist and vocalist Zach Dorow, who introduced a no-nonsense, roots-rock sensibility to the band with his chunky strumming, soulful vocal melodies, and relatable lyrics. The fruits of this collaboration are apparent on 2022’s Dinosaur EP, which is both their first recording as a quartet, and their first with vocals. Clocking in at just under 20 minutes, it starts with the impossibly-catchy title track before taking the listener through a mini-rollercoaster of grungy distortion freak-outs, heart-wrenching sentimentality, hazy dream sequences, and, of course, plenty of guitar solos. The band continues to churn out new and better material, proving that while unlikely, this event isn’t stopping any time soon. We hope to see you there for the release show!
