UAW and Baldwin back "Bring Jobs Home" bill

Regional leaders of the United Auto Workers are joining Democratic senate candidate Tammy Baldwin in support of a bill aimed at bringing back jobs from overseas.

Michigan senator Debbie Stabenow has introduced the “Bring Jobs Home Act”. The measure would eliminate tax deductions for expenses linked to moving operations overseas, and provide a tax credit to companies that bring jobs back to the U.S.. Ron McInroy is Midwest region director of the United Auto Workers. He says the measure would create an even playing field.

McInroy admits Master Lock in Milwaukee brought some jobs back from overseas without the legislation. But, he says, the Bring Jobs Home bill would encourage more firms to relocate jobs to the U.S.. McInroy and the UAW president from Master Lock joined representative Tammy Baldwin at a press conference in West Allis Friday afternoon. McInroy says the UAW is happy to see eye-to-eye with the Democratic senate candidate.

The UAW expects the senate will vote on the Bring Jobs Home bill next month. Union leaders say they’re not sure what would happen in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. Conservatives argue that a lot of jobs are just moved within the U.S..
