Gov. Scott Walker said Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s “unconventional” candidacy could mean voter turnout in Wisconsin may not follow typical trends.
According to numbers from the state Elections Commission, about one third of early votes cast so far have been cast in the Democratic strongholds of Dane and Milwaukee counties. In-person absentee voting hasn’t begun in many Republican-leaning parts of the state.
Speaking with reporters on Friday, Walker said he still thinks there will be a strong showing for Republicans this fall.

“With Donald Trump in particular you’ve got an unconventional candidate, so it’s hard to tell if traditional trends will be in line,” Walker said. “You could very well have people turning out in areas that might be for him that might not otherwise for other candidates.”
The governor also said Republicans’ statewide grassroots network will help spur voter turnout.
