Superior City Councilor Resigns

Graham Garfield Steps Down Amid Reckless Endangerment Charges

By

This week a Superior City Councilor charged with allegedly pointing a gun at his fiancée during a domestic dispute first refused calls to step down and then officially resigned Thursday evening.

Graham Garfield is charged with a felony and three misdemeanors for the April 20 incident. Garfield attended his first Superior City Council meeting Tuesday since he was charged. He refused calls for him to step down, but he changed course Thursday. The embattled councilor said in a statement yesterday that negative reaction to him and pressure on other council members is distracting from the role of city government.

“Out of concern for the well-being of the community and wishing no harm upon my colleagues, I announce that I will be stepping down,” the statement reads. “It has been one of my life’s greatest pleasures to serve the people of this city, and I hope that I can be an asset to the community again someday. I continue to support, as a citizen, a progressive agenda that will benefit all members of the community and make our city a better place to live.”
