State Rep. Sondy Pope Says Vouchers Could Expand Statewide

Democratic State Representative Sondy Pope, a member of the Assembly Education Committee, says Governor Scott Walker’s plan to expand school vouchers could eventually spread statewide.

The representative from Cross Plains hosted a conference call with officials from four of the nine school districts that would be affected by the voucher expansion in the Governor’s budget.

“We’re being flooded with questions and concerns, because it isn’t going to take much to expand this past the nine districts that are mentioned in this budget. So it kind of puts everyone on notice that voucher schools are coming to you in the very near future.”

Pope expects the voucher expansion to pass the Assembly but some Senate Republicans say the plan needs to change.

The voucher plan would take taxpayer money away from certain schools and put it toward tuition at private schools.
