- Federal Judge Hears Testimony In Abortion Law Challenge: All week, U.S. District Judge William Conley in Madison has heard testimony in a challenge to a new state law that requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of their clinic. Testimony came from attorneys from the ACLU and Planned Parenthood, doctors who support the new law, and abortion research experts. A ruling is expected sometime next month.
- Walker Campaign Responds To Reports Of Possible Settlement In John Doe Probe: On Thursday, Gov. Scott Walker’s campaign issued a statement on a John Doe criminal investigation that was recently halted by a federal judge. The statement didn’t refute reports that Walker’s lawyer was in settlement talks with the prosecutor of the probe.
- John Doe Targets Sue Wisconsin Election Officials In Waukesha County: On Friday, the Wisconsin Club for Growth, a group that was targeted by an investigation into potentially illegal campaign activity, filed a lawsuit against election officials in Wisconsin. The organization says officials were abusing their powers by infringing on the rights of political activists. This is the latest of several lawsuits filed regarding the John Doe investigation; other suits are currently in the state court system and another has been filed in federal court.
- Medical College Of Wisconsin Will Get Funding As Part Of Concussion Research Initiative: On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Collegiate Athletics Association announced the Medical College of Wisconsin will get several million dollars in funding for sports-related concussion research. The joint initiative will also include the University of Michigan and Indiana University. Experts are saying this is the most comprehensive look at sports concussions and head impact exposure.
