Snowstorm Still Affecting Travel

Wisconsin’s Department of Transportation says travel conditions are beginning to improve after yesterday’s storm, but that many roads are still partially or completely covered with ice and snow.Southern Wisconsin’s first major snowstorm of the year left as much as 19 inches of heavy, wet snow on the ground.

Crews are expected to be out today, tending to vehicles that slid off the roads during yesterday’s storm.

WDOT says it expects heavier-than-usual traffic this weekend, because of the Christmas holiday.It’s urging drivers to allow extra time to reach their destinations.Major road conditions are available at 511wi.gov.

The National Weather Service says snowfall totals ranged from an inch or two in Milwaukee, to 12-20 inches in Dane County.Also, La Crosse received about a foot of snow, and nearly 16 inches fell on parts of Buffalo County, along the Mississippi River.

The weekend forecast calls for partly to mostly sunny skies, with daytime temperatures in the 20s and low 30s.The next chance of snow comes on Monday, when a slight chance of snow is predicted.
